{"id":17278,"date":"2008-10-01T06:23:43","date_gmt":"2008-09-30T22:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-hayman-theatre-presents-the-after-dinner-joke\/"},"modified":"2008-10-01T06:23:43","modified_gmt":"2008-09-30T22:23:43","slug":"curtins-hayman-theatre-presents-the-after-dinner-joke","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-hayman-theatre-presents-the-after-dinner-joke\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin&#8217;s Hayman Theatre presents The After-Dinner Joke"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"title\">\n<div id=\"titledesc\">\n<p>C263\/08<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>1 October 2008<\/span><\/div>\n<p>7 October to 11 October 2008<br \/>\n8pm<br \/>\nHayman Theatre Upstairs<br \/>\nCurtin  University of Technology, Kent Street, Bentley<\/p>\n<p>Ticket prices: Standard $15 and Concession $12<br \/>\nBookings: 9266 2383 or <a href=\"mailto:L.Brennan@curtin.edu.au\">L.Brennan@curtin.edu.au<\/a><br \/>\nAn \u2018Alice-in-Wonderland-esque\u2019 spectacle that satirises the politics of  charity and the absence of charity in politics is The After-Dinner Joke, the  latest production by Curtin University of Technology\u2019s Hayman Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Originally written for television and adapted for the stage, this one-act  play by Caryl Churchill is a hilarious political comedy.<\/p>\n<p>The After-Dinner Joke is directed by Curtin\u2019s Leah Mercer and centred around  an idealistic young woman named Selby and her descent into the bureaucracy that  shapes the business of helping people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe play explores what happens at the intersection of charity and business  and asks if the politics of fund-raising and consciousness-raising can ever be  truly compatible,\u201d Ms Mercer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFusing live and mediated performances, this visual spectacle will feature  nine actors playing over 50 characters depicting over 60 different locations as  it explores what happens at the intersection of charity and business,\u201d she  said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe play presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase the emerging actors  that make up the Hayman Theatre Company at Curtin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main actors are Simone Ruggiero of East Victoria Park, Claire Lacy of  East Fremantle<br \/>\nAshley MacDougall of Leeming, and Samantha Zinner of  Bassendean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The After-Dinner Joke will be showing from 8pm, 7 October to 11 October at  Hayman Theatre Upstairs at Curtin\u2019s Bentley Campus.
