{"id":17225,"date":"2008-11-11T05:19:35","date_gmt":"2008-11-10T21:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-awarded-6-5-million-in-research-funds\/"},"modified":"2008-11-11T05:19:35","modified_gmt":"2008-11-10T21:19:35","slug":"curtin-awarded-6-5-million-in-research-funds","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-awarded-6-5-million-in-research-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin awarded $6.5 million in research funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"title\">\n<div id=\"titledesc\">\n<p>C297\/08<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>11 November 2008<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Curtin University of Technology has been awarded nearly $6.5 million in  Federal Government grants to fund 20 research projects that will deliver a range  of economic, social and environmental benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The project grants have been awarded through the Australian Research Council  (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).<\/p>\n<p>Curtin Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Development, Professor Linda  Kristjanson, said this was a great result for the University.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Curtin is committed to advancing research and innovation nationally and  internationally, and these grants provided support for research that will lead  to the discovery of new ideas and the advancement of knowledge,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The research projects range from examining the effect of electronic games on  the fitness of children and treating wastewater for potable reuse, to the link  between corporate governance and sustainability, and the most effective  anti-smoking messages.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for ARC and NHMRC funding are subject to a rigorous, independent  peer review process that considers factors such as the researcher&#8217;s track record  and capacity to undertake the work, the significance and innovation of the  proposed research, the approach to be taken, training opportunities to be made  available, and the national benefit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that so many of Curtin\u2019s research projects have secured funding is  a great reflection on the quality and capability of our researchers and academic  program,\u201d Professor Kristjanson said.<\/p>\n<p>Note to COS\/Editor: A summary of Curtin\u2019s research projects that have  received grants through the ARC and NHMRC are listed below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARC Discovery &amp;
