If you\u2019re wondering whether uni is really <\/em>worth it, then there\u2019s perhaps no one better to ask than a student. Curtin students tell us how their time at uni has shaped their lives and future careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building a community <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Uni life is about having fun and making connections that can last a lifetime. At Curtin there are countless opportunities to meet new people, try new activities, and build friendships. Becca Codd (Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) (Honours)<\/a>), found that the vibrant social life at Curtin helped her feel part of a welcoming community. \u201cThere are a lot of support services available at Curtin, which makes you feel safe,\u201d she shares. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Becca, the social sports scene was a highlight. Whether it was volleyball or netball, she loved getting involved in activities that weren\u2019t just fun but also a great way to meet people. \u201cIt allowed me to connect with other students and form friendships,\u201d she says.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Career prospects <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the top reasons for many who choose uni study is the enhanced career opportunities. Emma Galante, Bachelor of Design (Digital Experience and Interaction Design<\/a>), discovered how valuable the work experience she gained at uni was for her future career.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had the opportunity to undertake work experience related to my course \u2026 Curtin provided me with the opportunity to present my body of work to Deloitte, which later resulted in an internship and a graduate position within the company,\u201d she explains. These experiences not only reinforced Emma\u2019s learning but also gave her crucial hands-on experience in a competitive field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real-world experience <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Uni is a great place for gaining the sort of valuable, practical experience that gets you job-ready.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brodie O\u2019Breza, Bachelor of Science (Marine Science)<\/a>, emphasises the importance of practical learning and fieldwork in her degree: \u201cI completed a vacation program in the Pilbara, working alongside environmental advisors on dingo management, turtle monitoring, and the rehabilitation of native flora and protected species.\u201d These experiences allowed Brodie to gain crucial work experience, make professional connections, and directly apply her studies to the field.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global opportunities <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Uni can offer a gateway to global experiences that expand your horizons. Studying abroad is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in a new culture, while also adding a unique experience to your CV that sets you apart from others in the job market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pyper Thompson, Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Marketing)<\/a>, took advantage of Curtin\u2019s study abroad program. \u201cMy favourite experience was studying at Stanford University in the US, where I completed an 8-week course in accounting, AI and technology entrepreneurship.\u201d This opportunity gave Pyper life-changing knowledge, networks, and friendships.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating a portfolio for future success <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Uni is also the perfect place for developing a tangible portfolio of work that showcases your talents and abilities to potential employers. James Hoare, Bachelor of Arts (Screen Arts)<\/a>, says his time at Curtin was a \u201chands-on exploration of filmmaking,\u201d where he had the opportunity to create professional-looking films using industry-standard equipment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

James worked on a feature horror film with VFX and stunts for his major project, which gave him a portfolio that impressed employers and helped him break into the film industry. These practical, real-world experiences can make all the difference when starting out in a competitive professional field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
