The admission pathways to university are less elusive and more inclusive than you might assume.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe you\u2019re at TAFE, your ATAR was lower than expected, you\u2019re looking to make a career change or something entirely different. Whatever your background, goals and lifestyle, you can create a Uni<em>verse<\/em> of opportunities by studying at Curtin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What pathways to university are out there?<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Long gone are the days when ATAR exclusively decided your acceptance into university. It\u2019s a grading system that ranks your work relative to that of other students in your year group, but it only applies if you take at least four ATAR subjects. See our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/advice\/your-quick-guide-to-atar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quick guide to ATAR<\/a> for more info on how it all works. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Curtin courses accept ATAR as an admission pathway, so the world is your oyster!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If ATAR is your method of choice, you\u2019ll want to keep an eye out for the minimum ATAR and guaranteed ATAR of each course while flicking through the guide. Take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/undergraduate\/atar-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ATAR breakdown by course<\/a> page to uncover what ATAR you\u2019ll need to be accepted into your preferred course (using data from the most recent study period).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some Curtin courses, you\u2019ll also need to have studied and passed \u2018prerequisite\u2019 ATAR subjects. Check if you need to meet any prerequisite requirements before you apply.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it looks like your ATAR might not quite get you an offer, or you\u2019re missing prerequisites, don&#8217;t fret. Read on for a rundown on how <a href=\"#course-switch\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#course-switch\">course switching<\/a> can get you where you need to go.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it\u2019s often seen as cut and dry, there\u2019s flexibility with the ATAR pathway. If your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/applying\/special-consideration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">studies have been disrupted<\/a>, or you meet criteria based on socio-economic factors for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/applying\/pathways\/stepup-to-curtin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">StepUp to Curtin<\/a>, you may be eligible for an ATAR adjustment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/personal-support\/counselling-wellbeing\/wellbeing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Wellbeing Advisors<\/a> are here to chat about your circumstances, offer advice and provide academic counselling. I found that reaching out and asking for support helped to minimise the impact on my studies and my health.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pyper Thompson,  Bachelor of Commerce<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use your ATAR to apply now<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a year 12 student or you\u2019ve already graduated with a WACE certificate, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/study\/applying\/domestic\/how-to-apply\/undergraduate\/#atar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submit your course preferences with Curtin<\/a>. If you haven\u2019t received your final ATAR just yet, you can still apply with your predicted ATAR.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once ATARs are released in December, you\u2019ll have a couple of days to finalise your preferences for the first round of offers, so you\u2019ll have an even better idea of what you\u2019re likely to get into.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"portfolio-entry\"><strong>Showcase your story through a portfolio entry pathway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re someone with drive, enthusiasm by the mile and plenty of experience to share, a portfolio entry could be a great option for you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of your portfolio as a scrapbook, which journeys through who you are, what you\u2019ve achieved and why you want to study at uni. Take your time<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pathways to university are diverse, so take your time to pick one that&#8217;s right for you \u2013 want to balance work while earning some prerequisites? Maybe you\u2019re keen to kick-start your studies at the same time as your mates?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no one \u2018right\u2019 way to get into uni. Carve a path that will best empower you to achieve your goals, excel in your field and build the skills you need to make an impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Ask for advice<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put the word out! Sometimes it\u2019s great to have an outsider&#8217;s perspective.
