Did you get the ATAR ranking you were hoping for? Or the marks you need for your dream course? We’ve put together a quick list of reasons to help you feel more confident, whatever your results.

Why you shouldn’t worry about your final results

1. ATAR is a ranking, not a score

If you’ve been studying ATAR subjects as a pathway to university, it’s important to remember your ATAR isn’t a direct reflection of your high school results – it indicates how you rank against other students in your year group. For example, if you achieve an ATAR of 70.00, it means you achieved as well as, or better than, 70 per cent of year 12s in WA, which is fantastic!

If you want to know more about how the ATAR ranking works, and some of the changes coming up, we’ve put together a brief explainer to refresh your memory.

Your quick guide to ATAR

2. There’s more than one pathway to uni

It might feel like there is a lot of focus on ATAR but it’s important to remember there are a range of pathways to university.

Portfolio entry

If you’re taking General subjects at high school, or you’re studying a combination of ATAR and General subjects and/or VET qualifications, or you finish high school without an ATAR, portfolio entry could be a great pathway option. This pathway gives you access to a range of business, health, science and humanities degrees and can be a gateway to an even wider range of courses.

VET qualifications

Gaining a VET Certificate 4 in years 11 and 12 can qualify you for admission to Curtin courses with a 70 ATAR, provided you meet our English language requirements and any course prerequisites.

Enabling courses

Completing UniReady at school will qualify you for admission to Curtin courses with a 70 ATAR. You can also take UniReady once you’ve finished high school and qualify in time to start your course mid-year. If you’re a First Nations student, we offer enabling courses to help ensure you learn in a culturally supportive environment.

If you’re unsure which option is best for you, check out our pathway tool online, or watch our quick video explainer.

Discover your pathway options

3.
