Curtin Profiles replaces the staff profile pages as the primary way collaborators, industry partners and the wider public can discover and connect with Curtin University’s research and expertise.

Curtin Profiles draws on data already collected and held in Elements, the research information system Curtin University uses to manage publications and outputs. Each profile is generated directly from a researcher’s Elements record, meaning publications, outputs and activities are automatically reflected on a clean, modern public webpage. This requires far less manual upkeep than the previous profile system.

The rollout also marks a significant expansion of who can be represented. For the first time, Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students have been given access to Elements, allowing them to have their own public Curtin Profile alongside academic and research-active professional staff.

Curtin academic staff and HDR students are encouraged to log into Elements to confirm their publication data is current and add additional content, such as biographical information, professional activities, teaching and areas of expertise.

To ensure continuity of service, links to the previous profile platform automatically redirect users to the corresponding new Curtin Profile.

Why it matters

Curtin University Library’s approach surfaces existing data rather than duplicating it. Instead of asking researchers to maintain two versions of their profile, Curtin Profiles simply presents information that is already accurate and current in Elements. This reduces the administrative burden on the research community while improving the consistency and discoverability of information about the University’s research strengths – a challenge familiar to research libraries everywhere.

What’s next

Individual profiles were the first phase of this initiative. The Library is now collaborating with research groups, institutes and centres to prepare for the introduction of group profiles. Building on the same approach, these group profiles will provide each group with a discoverable webpage that showcases its purpose, membership and contributions to academic research and public policy.

Find out more

Curtin staff and students can preview their profile at profiles.curtin.edu.au and find guidance in the Library’s Research Toolkit.

Written by Marcus Whelband, Manager, Library Research Services

Reading time: 2 minutes
In August 2026, the Library launched Curtin Profiles, a new public facing showcase of the University’s researchers.

[9,4

post-6974","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog","category-library
["GET
