It’s been a busy few months at the TL Robertson Library, with exhibitions celebrating local history, community voices and creative expression. As some of our displays come to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back at the stories they’ve shared.

50 Years of Curtin FM: Your stories, your community

Celebrating five decades of community broadcasting, 50 Years of Curtin FM: Your stories, your community explored the history of Curtin University’s much-loved radio station, which began broadcasting as 6NR in 1976.

From specialist sports broadcasts and migrant community programs to music, memorable interviews and Australia’s first Noongar radio program, the exhibition highlighted the many voices that have found a home on Curtin FM over the years.

The celebrations continued last week when Curtin FM broadcast live from the Library, bringing the station’s community spirit into the space and giving visitors a chance to experience the action firsthand.

Thank you to everyone who visited the exhibition and helped celebrate 50 years of community radio. The display wraps up today, 29 October.

Unhidden: Creativity without limits

Earlier this year, the Library Makerspace hosted Unhidden for Disability Pride Month, bringing together artists, creatives and the Curtin community to celebrate the intersection of art and disability.

Featuring everything from soft sculpture, crochet and painting to poetry, podcasts, lino prints and zines, the exhibition showcased work created through months of creative activities across campus. It also created space for conversations about lived experience, accessibility and the power of creative expression.

A big thank you to all the artists, speakers and contributors who shared their work and stories with the Curtin community.

Still on display: John Curtin: A Life with Books

There’s still time to explore our current Level 3 exhibition, John Curtin: A Life with Books, presented by the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library.

The exhibition offers a glimpse into the reading life of Curtin University’s namesake, who left school at thirteen but remained a lifelong learner. Through books, poetry, pamphlets, personal inscriptions and family scrapbooks, visitors can discover the interests and ideas that helped shape John Curtin’s intellectual world.

The exhibition is open until the end of the year, so drop by Level 3 of the TL Robertson Library to take a look. Entry is free and no RSVP is required.

There’s always another story to discover at the Library. Keep an eye out for our next exhibition in the new year!
