textbooks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are Open Educational Resources?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/open-educational-resources\">UNESCO<\/a> describes Open Educational Resources (OERs) as \u201clearning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CAUL Open Educational Resources Collective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After participating in the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) <a href=\"https:\/\/caul.edu.au\/service\/open-educational-resource-collective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open Educational Resources Collective<\/a> for the Collective\u2019s duration from 2022-2025, Curtin Library has launched an OER platform via Pressbooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/curtin.pressbooks.pub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Curtin Open Books<\/a> is a platform for adapting, creating, and hosting OERs created by Curtin staff, allowing our experts to create and publish independent eBooks that are accessible to all through Creative Commons licensing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Purpose&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To provide Curtin authors with a new online platform option for publishing their open textbooks, as well as build their knowledge and skills with open educational resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This program is part of the Library\u2019s broader strategic objective to support the adoption of open practices in learning and teaching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Program participation&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Participating authors will:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commit to making part or all of their open textbook published through Pressbooks according to an agreed-upon timeline with the Library.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access training and documentation from the Library and Pressbooks.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use Pressbooks as an open access publishing platform free of charge.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The Library will:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide access to the Pressbooks platform, including hosting costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check in regularly to support progress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide guidance on:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Registering identifiers (ORCID, DOI, ISBN, etc)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copyright, Creative Commons and clearing permissions\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Style guides, referencing and attribution\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MARC record creation and metadata support\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deposit to the National Library and espace\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tracking impact\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide support with:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the Pressbooks platform<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility requirements\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multimedia \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Graphic design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifying suitable candidates for peer review (as required)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Prospective authors should be aware that the open textbook publishing workflow is intensive and should refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/caul.libguides.com\/oer-collective-publishing-workflow\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer They won\u2019t face a cost barrier to their study and you can tailor the content of the open textbook.
