Participation Criteria

The Library will review expressions of interest from Curtin authors. Applications will need to meet the following criteria: 

  • Affiliation – At least one of the authors must be a staff member of Curtin University.  
  • Relevance – The open textbook subject matter must be relevant to Curtin’s current learning and teaching areas.  
  • Longevity – The content will not become obsolete within a short period of time.  
  • Accessibility – The content is written for an audience at tertiary level.  
  • Copyright – The authors will attach a Creative Commons licence to the open textbook. The Library encourages the least restrictive option for re-usability (e.g. CC-BY). Authors will have appropriate copyright clearances to include any third party copyright material in the textbook.  
  • Cultural relevance – The topics are culturally sensitive and incorporate multicultural information.  
  • Capacity – The authors have the capacity to produce the textbook (or at least a chapter) within the timeframe and a commitment to engage with the Community of Practice for Authors.
