{"id":1937,"date":"2024-11-28T18:09:15","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T10:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/jcg\/?post_type=events&#038;p=1937"},"modified":"2024-12-03T10:59:49","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T02:59:49","slug":"campus-public-art-tour-howard-taylor","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/jcg\/events\/campus-public-art-tour-howard-taylor\/","title":{"rendered":"Campus Public Art Tour: Howard Taylor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Acknowledged as one of the most significant Australian artists of the 20th century, painter and sculptor Howard Taylor (1918-2001) was influenced by the Western Australian landscape, particularly the coastal forests of his home in Northcliffe.<br><br>Visit and learn about our significant collection of&nbsp;public artworks by Howard Taylor, guided by Campus Public Art Coordinator and artist Mikaela Miller.&nbsp;Works to be explored include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Way Through<\/em>&nbsp;(1977-78) was the first major sculpture to have been commissioned by Curtin University (then WAIT) expressly for an outdoor setting.&nbsp;<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cyclops&nbsp;<\/em>(1965) and its partner work,&nbsp;<em>Untitled, Brass Relief&nbsp;<\/em>(1965) were added to the collection as a gift from the ANZ Bank with the demolition of their former CBD headquarters&nbsp;in 1989.&nbsp;<em><\/em>&nbsp;<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What participants can bring<\/strong>: comfortable walking shoes,&nbsp;sun protection and water bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking is along\u00a0relatively well-maintained paths,\u00a0some hills, but mostly flat, some stairs.
