Welcome to Karlkurla Country!<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Did you know that Kalgoorlie&#8217;s name is thought to have derived from the &#8216;Karlkurla&#8217; (pronounced gull-gurl-la) \u2013 the local Aboriginal name for the native silky pear found in the area? Aboriginal people from 17 distinct language groups have called the vast lands of the Goldfields region home for tens of thousands of years. There will be opportunities to help gather, prepare and taste traditional bush foods such as Kangaroo tail and honey ants. These experiences enable you to learn about the significance of Country and its connection to health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aboriginal health experts servicing our communities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) servicing the Goldfields and its Aboriginal people. You may visit or connect with any one of these ACCHOs during your placement, as you learn to provide culturally appropriate healthcare to Indigenous people living in our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bega.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bega Garnbirringu Health Service<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nghealth.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ngaanyatjarra Health Service<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spinifexhealth.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spinifex Health Service<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Leadership body defines an ACCHO as &#8220;a primary health care service initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care to the community which controls it, through a locally elected Board of Management.&#8221; ACCHOs play an important role particularly in regional health care, as they are able to provide flexible and responsive services that are tailored to the needs of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yuwa!
