Curtin University<\/a> Journalism & Public Relations graduate <\/a>Holly Hazel<\/a> is passionate about sharing stories and advocating for those making a real difference in the WA community. \ud83c\udf0d

As Volunteering WA<\/a>\u2019s Marketing & Communications Manager, Holly manages the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards, the annual International Volunteer Day Garden Party, and various state-wide marketing campaigns.

This National Volunteers Week, Holly shares why she is so passionate about working for organisations that exist to make lasting change in the community. \ud83d\udc47

I worked for two years as the Marketing Executive at St Andrew’s First Aid<\/a> in Glasgow. This involved coordinating 350 volunteers across Scotland to provide first aid at community events and taught basic first aid to children and adults.

As part of our advocacy campaign to introduce first aid into the school curriculum, two girls from our children’s cadets program attended Scottish Parliament and showed Members of Parliament how to use a defibrillator to restart a heart.

\ud835\udc10: \ud835\udc16\ud835\udc21\ud835\udc1a\ud835\udc2d \ud835\udc1d\ud835\udc22\ud835\udc1f\ud835\udc1f\ud835\udc1e\ud835\udc2b\ud835\udc1e\ud835\udc27\ud835\udc1c\ud835\udc1e \ud835\udc1d\ud835\udc28 \ud835\udc32\ud835\udc28\ud835\udc2e \ud835\udc21\ud835\udc28\ud835\udc29\ud835\udc1e \ud835\udc2d\ud835\udc28 \ud835\udc26\ud835\udc1a\ud835\udc24\ud835\udc1e \ud835\udc22\ud835\udc27 \ud835\udc2d\ud835\udc21\ud835\udc22\ud835\udc2c \ud835\udc2c\ud835\udc29\ud835\udc1a\ud835\udc1c\ud835\udc1e?

Currently, my work focuses on amplifying the voice of WA\u2019s volunteering sector. Sometimes people think volunteering is just a \u2018nice thing to do\u2019, but in reality people who volunteer are actually keeping this country moving and connected.

There are reportedly 1.5 million people in WA who volunteer \u2013 but in reality, there are so many more. First Nations Peoples or different cultural groups may not use the word \u2018volunteer\u2019 \u2013 they\u2019re simply using their time to help their family and the community \u2013 these are the stories I hope to help continue to share.
