{"id":7920,"date":"2026-06-26T14:09:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T06:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/events\/?p=7920"},"modified":"2026-07-02T12:57:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T04:57:27","slug":"more-than-a-game-how-footy-is-kicking-goals-for-mens-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/events\/more-than-a-game-how-footy-is-kicking-goals-for-mens-health\/","title":{"rendered":"More than a game: how footy is kicking goals for men&#8217;s health"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This event is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/research\/research-rumble\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/research\/research-rumble\/\">Research Rumble<\/a>, a year-long program of events inviting you to discover how Curtin researchers are helping to solve the world\u2019s next big challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Footy has long brought Aussies together, and now it\u2019s helping to kick goals for men\u2019s health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Aussie-FIT <\/em><\/strong>is a free, research-led health and fitness program that\u2019s using sport and community to support men in building healthier, more active lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join Associate Professor Eleanor Quested and Dr Matthew McDonald from the Curtin enAble Institute as they share how Aussie-FIT is tackling some of the most pressing challenges facing men\u2019s health \u2013 from obesity to heart disease \u2013 one goal at a time. They\u2019ll explore the research behind the program and the difference it\u2019s making to men\u2019s physical and mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Find out how researchers, football clubs and community partners are taking research beyond the sidelines to make lasting change for men\u2019s health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019ll be joined later for a panel discussion featuring:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WA Football Executive Manager Participation and Strategy WA Football,&nbsp;<strong>Chris Bandy<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Senior Coach Claremont Football Club, former AFL player and Aussie-FIT coach,&nbsp;<strong>Ash Prescott<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Western Australian Heart Foundation General Manager,&nbsp;<strong>Dr Helena Viola<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perth Football Club Community Engagement Manager and Aussie-FIT Coach,&nbsp;<strong>Riley Wills,&nbsp;<\/strong>and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Panel moderator,\u00a0<strong><strong>Professor Andrew Maiorana<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0from Curtin\u2019s School of Allied Health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This event is an opportunity for anyone working in healthcare, sports and community organisations, or anyone interested in men\u2019s health, to learn more about the power of sport to improve health outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Light refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can\u2019t make it in person, you can join us online.
