The Health Research Priorities project is a co-designed research project focused on understanding the health priorities and support needs of people who work irregular hours, including Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) workers, who may be at increased risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and mental health challenges. Irregular-hours work can involve unique pressures, including long or rotating rosters, disrupted sleep, time away from family, limited food and exercise options, and social isolation, that are rarely considered in existing health programs. This project brings workers together with researchers to first listen to and understand their experiences, priorities, and support needs, before identifying practical, realistic health-focused solutions that fit these work patterns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project has established a Community Advisory Group made up of people with lived experience of working irregular or unpredicted hours, including FIFO. The research team would now like to expand the group to include others who work irregular or unpredictable hours. By sharing their lived experience, the group will help guide research priorities, and ensure future health programs are relevant, respectful, and feasible for people who work irregular hours and their families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The research team are looking for people who work irregular\/unpredictable hours (such as nurses, doctors, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, airline pilots and cabin crew, aged care workers, hospital support staff, truck drivers, security guards, call centre staff, and media workers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As this is an emerging research area, meetings do not have a specified structure. The next meeting is aimed to take place in October or November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting will be held online (via Microsoft Teams) or in-person on the Curtin Bentley campus and will last approximately 1 hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You need to reside within Western Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An honorarium of $50\/hour will be offered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
