While physical activity is widely promoted through health promotion campaigns, existing initiatives such as LiveLighter® primarily target adults aged 25 and over. Such adult-focused campaigns may not be suitable for young people aged 18-25, who are at a distinct stage of psychosocial and developmental growth. This leaves a critical gap in physical activity messaging that resonates with younger audiences. Moreover, there is limited understanding of how physical activity messaging is perceived by youth from priority populations – including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, LGBTQIA+ youth, and young people living with disability. Addressing this gap is essential to ensure health promotion efforts are relevant, equitable, and inclusive.

This project seeks to address this gap by working directly with young people to co-design inclusive, contextually relevant and developmentally appropriate physical activity messaging. The aim is to develop new approaches that reflect young people’s lived experiences, motivations, and barriers to participation, ultimately supporting more equitable engagement in physical activity across WA.

The involvement opportunity

The research team are looking for 6-8 young people aged 18-25 to join a Youth Advisory Group.
