Disability and Inclusion Community Advisory Group
The project
Curtin’s enAble Institute has recently established a ‘Disability and Inclusion’ Domain of research, which aims to improve wellbeing and quality of life, and enhance community participation and social inclusion for people with diverse abilities. The research within this Domain spans neurodevelopmental disabilities, rare and undiagnosed conditions (e.g. childhood dementia), physical disabilities, acquired brain injury, and neurological conditions that significantly impact functioning and activities of daily living. Using strengths- and rights-based approaches, researchers within the Domain co-design evidence-based interventions to improve service access, create inclusive environments, and inform policy. Their work spans life, recognising that disability experiences vary widely and require tailored approaches at different life stages.
The involvement opportunity
Researchers from the enAble Institute would like to form a Community Advisory Group (CAG) for the Disability and Inclusion Domain. The CAG will be made up of 8-10 people with lived experience of disability, either living with a disability themselves or as the carer of someone with a disability. The researchers would like the CAG to represent people with visible and invisible disabilities.
Activities the Community Advisory Group may be involved in include:
- Advising on areas of priority for research
- Providing feedback on research ideas
- Reviewing research proposals, plain language summaries and other materials
- Communicating research findings with relevant external stakeholders.
Skills and experience
You need to have lived experience of a disability (visible or invisible) or be the carer of someone with a disability. You also need to reside in Western Australia.
