Lane 1 is safer, Lane 2 is richer, but together they feel fragmented and harder to explain to students. You know both lanes matter, yet you are left wondering how to design&nbsp;them&nbsp;so they&nbsp;actually work&nbsp;together to scaffold learning, address CLOs, and reduce assessment risk rather than multiply it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not alone. Unit Coordinators across Curtin are thinking about how to actively sequence secure and&nbsp;non\u2011secure&nbsp;assessments, clarify GenAI boundaries, and build a coherent evidence trail without redesigning everything from scratch. This workshop focuses on practical principles for designing integrated,&nbsp;scaffolded&nbsp;and synergistic Lane 1 and Lane 2 assessments that save time, strengthen assurance of learning, and&nbsp;future\u2011proof&nbsp;your unit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong>\u202f90 minutes\u202f&nbsp;<br><strong>Format:<\/strong>\u202finteractive,&nbsp;hands\u2011on,&nbsp;in\u2011person\u202f&nbsp;<br><strong>Group size:<\/strong>\u202fUp to 30 participants\u202f&nbsp;<br><strong>Bring along:<\/strong>\u202fone unit outline and current assessment map (or draft tasks)\u202f&nbsp;<br><strong>Facilitator:<\/strong>\u202fJoel Louie&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop is built around four design principles that support Unit Coordinators to move from isolated tasks to a connected,&nbsp;holistic approach&nbsp;to assessment design. You will explore each principle through practical examples, then apply them to your own unit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Strategic Sequencing<\/strong>: explore how to distribute Lane 1 and Lane 2 assessments to progressively build complexity, starting with secured foundations and scaffolding towards applied, authentic challenges, while ensuring CLOs are meaningfully secured.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Complementary Design<\/strong>:&nbsp;identify&nbsp;how Lane 1 verifies knowledge and competency while Lane 2&nbsp;evidences&nbsp;application, judgement and creativity, and redesign tasks so each lane does different but essential work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Authentic Integration and AI Clarity<\/strong>: strengthen the connective tissue between tasks, make AI boundaries explicit, and use Lane 1 outcomes to scaffold and&nbsp;validate&nbsp;Lane 2 work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Holistic Evidence and Assurance<\/strong>: build a defensible portfolio of evidence using feedback loops, reflection and triangulation so learning, integrity and quality assurance reinforce each other.&nbsp;.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The session closes with a short design sprint and peer&nbsp;share\u2011back, where you will&nbsp;identify&nbsp;one concrete improvement to implement&nbsp;immediately&nbsp;in your unit, and a clear pathway
