School is seeking volunteers to work with groups of students in all years of the course that leads to registration as a nurse.<\/p><p>If you are available for a minimum of 3 hours, a few times a year, and would be willing to role play as a patient to assist students in learning how to communicate and care for patients, we would really like to hear from you. Medical School: simulated patient expression of interest","content":"<h2>If you are interested in being a simulated patient, please fill in and submit the form below.<\/h2>\n<h3>Important information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A completed expression of interest form will assist the Curtin Medical School to determine your suitability to participate in specific simulated patient sessions. Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are compulsory.<\/li>\n<li>You will be asked to sign a Simulated Patient Consent Form on the morning of your session. Each scenario or assessment will be video and audio taped and will form part of the student\u2019s assessment portfolio. Additionally, these recordings may be stored in \u2018cloud\u2019 locations in Australia or overseas.<\/li>\n<li>Simulated patient scenarios can comprise a history taking scenario and\/or a physical examination. As little as a few hours, one or two days during the months of April, May, June, August, September, October will be greatly appreciated. You can pick and choose the sessions that you wish to attend.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the benefits?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Help others.<\/li>\n<li>Learn new skills.<\/li>\n<li>Meet new people and have fun whilst doing it.<\/li>\n<li>Research demonstrates that volunteering leads to better health and that older volunteers are most likely to receive physical and mental health benefits from volunteering.<\/li>\n<li>The experience of helping others leads to a sense of great self-worth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Coles\/Myer vouchers are given to volunteers as a token of appreciation after participating in a training session.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:hlth-techdeliveryteam@curtin.edu.au\">Express your interest in becoming a Simulated Patient (actor) for the School of Nursing.<\/a><\/p>\n"},{"id":"cce","title":"Continuity of Care Experience (CCE)","content":"<p>This vital program enables Curtin University midwifery students to experience continuity of care with an individual woman through pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period.<\/p>\n<h2>About the program<\/h2>\n<p>As a participant in the Continuity of Care Experience, you will be allocated a midwifery student for the duration of your pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. Your student will attend at least 4 antenatal appointments, will aim to be there for your labour and birth and will attend at least 2 postnatal appointments, all with the supervising midwife.<\/p>\n<p>Your midwifery student will become a familiar face and will provide support throughout your childbirth journey, with the supervising midwife.<\/p>\n<p>In doing this you provide an invaluable learning experience which is practical and relevant and forms part of the assessment towards their midwifery qualification. This is a rewarding experience for both parents and midwifery students and comes highly recommended from past participants.<\/p>\n<h2>When can I join the program?<\/h2>\n<p>You can join the program if you are less than 35 weeks pregnant. The earlier you join, the longer you and the student have to establish a relationship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Things to consider<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Are you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>less than 35 weeks pregnant?<\/li>\n<li>interested in getting to know a midwifery student?<\/li>\n<li>keen to contribute to their education?<\/li>\n<li>willing to share your experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is expected of me?<\/h2>\n<p>Very simply, the student is asking that you share your childbearing experiences with them. It is useful for the student to attend pregnancy appointments, education classes and the labour and birth.\u00a0 It would also be expected that the student visit you with the midwife during the early parenting period, up to 4-6 weeks after your baby is born.<\/p>\n<h2>What is the student\u2019s role if they support me during my planned birth?<\/h2>\n<p>In the program students can support women and their partners during labour and birth according to the maternity settings birth support policy.
