{"id":41988,"date":"2026-10-26T08:43:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T00:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/?page_id=41988"},"modified":"2026-10-26T13:28:45","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T05:28:45","slug":"election-of-a-member-of-the-academic-board-to-the-academic-board-executive-casual-vacancy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/governance\/secretariat\/elections\/election-of-a-member-of-the-academic-board-to-the-academic-board-executive-casual-vacancy\/","title":{"rendered":"Election of a Member of the Academic Board to the Academic Board Executive (casual vacancy)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call for nominations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Curtin University Act 1966<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Term of office commencing date elected to&nbsp;31 March 2028<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a call for nominations for the election of a member of the Academic Board to the Academic Board Executive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Academic Board Executive is a standing committee of the Academic Board pursuant to Rule&nbsp;2.5(1) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/10\/AB_constitution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academic Board Constitution<\/a> and is responsible for assisting the Academic Board in performing its functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Section 3.1 of the Academic Board Executive Constitution specifies the membership composition, and includes one member of the Academic Board, elected by the Academic Board from among those members in Academic Board membership category 3.1(1)(k) &amp; (l), being:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>four members of the academic staff of each Faculty located in Western Australia being:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>one Professor elected by the Professors in the Faculty;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one Head of School or Deputy Head of School elected by the Heads of School in the Faculty; (l) may nominate themself, or another member of the Academic Board from among members elected under rule 3.1(1)(k) &amp; (l), to be a candidate for this election.<\/p>\n<p>The University encourages diversity on its Committees and therefore particularly encourages nominations from people from <a href=\"https:\/\/s30991.pcdn.co\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/12\/Diversity_Inclusion_and_Belonging_Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diverse backgrounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Nominations,-supporting-candidate-statements-and-photographs\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Nominations,-supporting-candidate-statements-and-photographs\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Nominations,-supporting-candidate-statements-and-photographs\">Nominations, supporting candidate statements and photographs<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Nominations,-supporting-candidate-statements-and-photographs\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Nominations are to be made using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/10\/Nomination-Form-AB-member-to-ABE-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nomination form<\/a>, which must be completed, signed and dated by both the nominee and nominator.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates are strongly encouraged to provide a short statement (not exceeding 150 words) and a passport-sized photograph (in JPEG format) for circulation with the voting material, should an election be required. The Returning Officer reserves the right to reject any statement exceeding 150 words and to re-size the photograph to ensure consistency of the voting material for each candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Completed <span style=\"color: #000000\">nomination forms, c<\/span>andidate statements and candidate photographs are to be received by the Secretariat via email (scan and send to <a href=\"mailto:secretariat@curtin.edu.au\">secretariat@curtin.edu.au<\/a>) <strong>by 5:00pm, Tuesday, 24 November<\/strong><strong> 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nomination forms, candidate statements and candidate photographs received after this time will not be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n nominations, that candidate will be declared elected.<\/li>\n<li>If more than one valid nomination is received, an election will be conducted to fill the position.<\/li>\n<li>The election will be conducted using Curtin University\u2019s electronic voting system, <strong>Simply Voting<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The system of voting will be Optional Preferential.<\/li>\n<li>The candidate who receives the highest number of votes following the distribution of preferences will be declared elected to the Academic Board Executive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n        \n                            \n required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>members of the Academic Board will be notified by email on <strong>Friday, 27 November 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>a ballot form will be prepared and will incorporate the candidate statements and photographs (where provided)<\/li>\n<li>an email will be sent from Simply Voting to those eligible to vote with details on how to access the Simply Voting site<\/li>\n<li>those eligible to vote will be able to use this link to vote from receipt on <strong>Thursday, 3 December 2026 <\/strong>until the close of the voting period<\/li>\n<li>the voting period will end at <strong>5:00pm, Thursday, 17 December 2026 <\/strong>&#8211; after this time, it will no longer be possible to access the Simply Voting site to vote in this election<\/li>\n<li>votes will be counted as soon as practicable after the voting period ends<\/li>\n<li>the result of the election will be declared by the Returning Officer on <strong>Friday, 18
