of the Deputy Chair of the Academic Board"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Call for nominations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>This is a call for nominations for the election of Deputy Chair of the Academic Board.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Statute 21 \u2013 Academic Board <\/em>provides for the establishment of an Academic Board.&nbsp; The Academic&nbsp;Board is a committee of the University Council and is responsible to the University Council for helping to ensure academic quality, integrity and standards of the academic matters of University\u2019s operations as an academic institution align with the Higher Education Standards Framework.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Board exercises leadership and has a major role in promoting and communicating academic values, standards, and quality enhancement throughout the University.&nbsp; It has three main functions and responsibilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>providing advice on academic matters to the Council, Vice-Chancellor and other members of the University senior executive on academic matters;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>approving relevant policies relating to academic matters, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>monitoring the performance, quality and standards of the University\u2019s academic activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Rule 3.3(2) of the Academic Board Constitution, <em>the Academic Board is to elect one of its members to be Deputy Chair<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The functions of the Deputy Chair are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(1)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To perform the functions of the Chair, Academic Board, including presiding at meetings of the Academic Board, in the absence of the Chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(2)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To perform any functions id=\"Term-of-office\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Pursuant to rule 3.4(2)(b), the term of office for the elected member to the position of Deputy Chair of the Academic\u00a0Board, will commence <strong>upon election <\/strong>and conclude on <strong>31 March 2028<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n University.<\/p>\n<p>The University encourages diversity on its Committees and therefore particularly encourages nominations from people from <a aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Only members of the Academic Board are eligible to nominate themselves or another member of the Academic Board, as a candidate for election to the position of Deputy Chair of the Academic Board.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\"  <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Nominations,-supporting-candidate-statements-and-photographs\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Nominations are to be made using the attached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/07\/Nomination-Form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nomination form<\/a> which must be completed, signed and dated by both the nominee and nominator.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates are strongly encouraged to provide a short statement (not exceeding 150 words) and\/or a passport-sized photograph (in jpeg format) for circulation with the voting material, should an election be required.\u00a0 The Returning Officer reserves the right to edit any statement or abbreviate any statement exceeding 150 words and to re-size the photograph to ensure consistency of the voting material for each candidate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Completed nomination forms, candidate statements and candidate photographs are to be received by the Secretariat via email <\/strong>(scan and send to the <a href=\"mailto:secretariat@curtin.edu.au\">secretariat@curtin.edu.au<\/a>) <strong>by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 22 July 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Nomination forms, candidate statements and candidate photographs received after this time <strong>will not be accepted<\/strong>.<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Election-process\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Election-process\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Election-process\">Election process<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Election-process\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ul>\n<li>Should only one valid nomination be received by the closing date for nominations, that candidate will be declared elected unopposed.<\/li>\n<li>If more than one valid nomination is received, an election will be conducted to fill the position.<\/li>\n<li>The election will be conducted using Curtin University\u2019s electronic voting system \u2018<strong><em>Simply Voting<\/em><\/strong>\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>The system of voting will be Optional Preferential; and<\/li>\n<li>The candidate that receives the highest number of votes following the distribution of preferences will be declared elected as Deputy Chair of the Academic Board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" id=\"Election-schedule\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ul>\n<li>If an election is required, all members of the Academic Board will be notified by email on <strong>Friday, 24 July 2026<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>An electronic ballot form will be prepared and will incorporate the candidate statements and photographs (where provided).<\/li>\n<li>An email will be sent from Simply Voting to those eligible to vote with details on how to access the Simply Voting site<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Those eligible to vote will be able to use this link to vote in the election on<strong> Thursday, 30 July 2026 <\/strong>until the close of the voting period.<\/li>\n<li>The voting period will end at <strong>5:00 pm on 13 August 2026. <\/strong>After this time is will no longer be possible to access the Simply Voting site to vote in this election.<\/li>\n<li>Votes will be counted as soon as practicable after the voting period ends.<\/li>\n<li>The result of the election will be declared by the Returning Officer on <strong>Friday, 14 August 2026<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n        \n                            \n
