{"id":25599,"date":"2024-10-02T08:20:24","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T08:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/?page_id=25599"},"modified":"2026-09-22T15:03:27","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T07:03:27","slug":"appointment-of-a-general-staff-member-to-the-kalgoorlie-campus-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/governance\/secretariat\/elections\/appointment-of-a-general-staff-member-to-the-kalgoorlie-campus-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Staff to Kalgoorlie Campus Council"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Call for Nominations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kalgoorlie Campus Council is established under the&nbsp;<em>Curtin University Act 1966&nbsp;<\/em>(\u2018the Act&#8217;) and has certain governance functions in respect of the Kalgoorlie Campus. Section 21M(1)(f) of the Act provides that the Kalgoorlie Campus Council shall include <em>a member of the higher education academic staff of the Kalgoorlie Campus who is appointed by the Council of the University f<\/em>or a term of office of three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important for nominees to understand that appointed members do not \u2018represent&#8217; the constituencies from which they are drawn.&nbsp;Rather they are expected to bring the perspective of a <em>higher education academic staff<\/em> member to the Campus Council. All members are to act in all matters concerning the Kalgoorlie Campus in the manner that to it appears most likely to promote the objects and interests of the Kalgoorlie Campus and the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Higher education academic staff considering nominating for appointment are encouraged to read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/09\/KCC_Charter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charter for the Kalgoorlie Campus Council<\/a> on the Secretariat website. The Returning Officer reserves the right to edit or abbreviate any statement exceeding 150 words. academic staff members of the Kalgoorlie Campus are eligible for appointment to the Kalgoorlie Campus Council.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that pursuant to section 2(1)(a) of Schedule 2 of the Act, a member appointed under section 21M(1)(f) holds office for a term, not exceeding 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>Pursuant to clause 2(2) of Schedule 2 of the Act, a member appointed under section 21M(1)(f) on the expiry of his or her term of office may be eligible for reappointment; but on the expiry of a third successive term of office he or she is not eligible to hold office as a member until 12 months have elapsed after such expiry.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Staff-members-eligible-to-nominate-a-candidate\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" members eligible to nominate a candidate<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Staff-members-eligible-to-nominate-a-candidate\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Any higher education academic staff member of the Kalgoorlie Campus may nominate another higher education academic staff member to be a candidate for this appointment.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Appointment-process\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Appointment-process\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Appointment-process\">Appointment process<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Appointment-process\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ul>\n<li>Following the receipt of nominations, the Vice-Chancellor will consider the nominations and candidate statements received in accordance with the relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2026\/09\/Nom_of_Members_Appnted_by_the_Uni_Council_to_the_Kal_Campus_Council_Proc.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">procedures<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Vice-Chancellor will make a recommendation on the preferred nominee to the University Council for approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once the University Council has made a resolution on the matter at its meeting to be held on 25 November 2026, the Council Secretary will formally advise the successful nominee by letter and advise the Kalgoorlie Campus
