{"id":25591,"date":"2024-10-02T08:20:37","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T08:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/?page_id=25591"},"modified":"2025-09-25T13:22:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T05:22:33","slug":"appointment-of-one-enrolled-student-to-the-kalgoorlie-campus-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/governance\/secretariat\/elections\/appointment-of-one-enrolled-student-to-the-kalgoorlie-campus-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Student to Kalgoorlie Council"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Call for Nominations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>This is a call for nominations for the appointment of an enrolled student to the Kalgoorlie Campus Council.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kalgoorlie Campus Council is established under the&nbsp;<em>Curtin University Act 1966&nbsp;<\/em>(\u2018the Act&#8217;) and has certain governance functions in respect of the Kalgoorlie Campus. Section 21M(1)(h) of the Act provides that the Kalgoorlie Campus Council shall include<em> \u201can enrolled student of the Kalgoorlie Campus and who is appointed by the Council of the University\u201d <\/em>for a term of office of one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important for nominees to understand that appointed members do not \u2018represent&#8217; the constituencies from which they are drawn.&nbsp; Rather they are expected to bring a student perspective to the Campus Council.&nbsp;&nbsp; All members, whether appointed or elected, are required to act at all times in the interests of the University.<br><br>Students considering nominating for appointment are encouraged to read the <a href=\"https:\/\/secretariat.curtin.edu.au\/local\/docs\/KCC_Charter.pdf\">Charter for the Kalgoorlie Campus Council<\/a> on the Secretariat website. The Returning Officer reserves the right to edit or abbreviate any statement exceeding 150 words. Direct the statement to <a href=\"mailto:secretariat@curtin.edu.au\">secretariat@curtin.edu.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Candidate statements must be returned to the Secretariat by the closing date for nominations,<strong> 5:00pm on Friday, 10 October 2025<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please see the\u00a0<a <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Students-Eligible-for-Election\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>All enrolled students of the Kalgoorlie Campus are eligible for appointment to the Kalgoorlie Campus Council.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that pursuant to section 2(3) of Schedule 2 of the Act, &#8220;<em>a member appointed under section 21M(1)(h) may be reappointed once, but only once, on the expiry of their term, if they continue to be qualified under section 21M(1)(h)\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Students-Eligible-to-Nominate-a-Candidate\">\n            <button type=\"button\" student, to be a candidate for this appointment.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" id=\"Appointment-Process\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Following the receipt of nominations, the Vice-Chancellor will consider the nominations and candidate statements received in accordance with the relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/s30991.pcdn.co\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/Nom_of_Members_Appnted_by_the_Uni_Council_to_the_Kal_Campus_Council_Proc.pdf\">procedures<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The Vice-Chancellor will make a recommendation on the preferred nominee to the University Council for approval.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once the University Council has made a resolution on the matter at its meeting to be held on 27 November 2025, the Council Secretary will formally advise the successful nominee by letter and advise the Kalgoorlie Campus Council
