As worldwide demand for electric vehicles ramps up, Curtin researchers are working with industry to prepare for the transition from yesterday\u2019s technologies to the vehicles and energy sources of tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is growing rapidly worldwide, driven by the need to decarbonise the transport sector, coupled with the increasing affordability and extended travelling range of EVs. As interest in EVs accelerates, fundamental challenges are emerging that may slow their uptake and successful integration into the energy grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RACE for 2030 Cooperative Research Centre<\/a> has launched the \u2018Australian Strategic Electric Vehicle Integration Project\u2019 as a deep dive investigation into the strategic integration of EVs within fleets, precincts, and regional contexts through partner led demonstrations in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-year project is being undertaken by researchers from the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP)<\/a> under the supervision of Professor Peter Newman, and the School of Electrical Engineering Computing and Mathematical Sciences<\/a>, under the supervision of Professor Sumedha Rajakaruna, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Technology Sydney<\/a>, the University of South Australia<\/a>, Monash University<\/a>, RMIT<\/a>, and Griffith University<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An embedded research approach will investigate customer behaviour, business and operating models, options for managed charging, and interactions with a range of energy storage systems.\u202fResults will inform key stakeholders of how EVs, when coupled with energy storage, can be effectively, efficiently, and equitably integrated into the energy system, built environment, and society.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will run for 3 years with a budget of $3.2m and an equivalent partner in-kind. Project partners include Ausgrid<\/a>, Australian Power Institute<\/a>, Endeavour Energy<\/a>, Planet Ark Power<\/a>, Plico Energy<\/a>, Powertech Energy<\/a>, NSW Government<\/a>, SA Government<\/a>, Selectronic<\/a>, SA Power Networks<\/a>, SwitchDin<\/a>, Western Power<\/a> and the Witchcliffe Ecovillage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n
