Western Australian School of Mines
Curtin is home to the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM), which has been locally and internationally recognised as a provider of excellence in minerals education, research and industry service since 1902.
Research at WASM covers areas including:
- applied geology
- exploration geophysics
- metallurgical engineering
- mineral economics
- mining engineering
- spatial science
WASM has been very active in the commercialisation of its research outputs. Scanalyse is now a fully operating company specialising in the use of technology based wear management solutions to critical high value industry applications. WASM is also in the process of establishing a spinoff company in Geophysics (HiSeis) and commercialising an electrostatic liquid-liquid extraction technique from the Metallurgy department which received a new inventor award in 2008.
