Creating an international petroleum research hub

Oil well

The Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA), of which Curtin is a member, has joined forces with international seismic surveying firm CGG Veritas, creating the potential for Perth to become an international hub for petroleum industry research.

The agreement will allow Curtin and other institutions in the Alliance to grow their international reach and pool of expertise.

Curtin's Head of Petroleum Engineering, Professor Brian Evans, said: "By linking with businesses such as CGG Veritas, Curtin and other institutions have a rare chance to be at the forefront of developing cutting edge technology for the exploration and production of oil and gas."

The agreement brings together the company's strong track record in developing seismic surveying technology and Curtin's success in geophysics and petroleum engineering research in a powerful partnership.

CGG Veritas and WA:ERA member organisations will work on a number of research programs focusing on high definition geophysics and the processing and interpretation of its resulting data.
