Flicker-Free Stereoscopic Video Display System
The "SVD20A" Flicker-Free Stereoscopic Video Display System allows the presentation of flicker-free full-colour stereoscopic images to viewers who are wearing the lightweight polarised 3D glasses. The system accepts 3D video from any field-sequential 3D video source, for example stereoscopic video cameras (terrestrial or underwater) or 3D video tape. The display is compatible with both the PAL and NTSC video standards.
The SVD20A consists of several system components - namely a 3D scan converter, a high frequency stereoscopic video monitor, a polarising screen and polarised 3D glasses. The 3D scan converter doubles the display frequency of the original PAL or NTSC signal to 100 or 120 images per second. This signal is displayed on the monitor where the polarising screen codes the left and right images with clockwise and anticlockwise polarisation. The viewer wears a pair of lightweight polarised 3D glasses to see the image in 3D. The glasses are comfortable to wear and do not interfere with the images from other monitors.
The system has been successfully used in various stereoscopic teleoperation applications such as with Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in the Oil & Gas Industry and driving remotely controlled front-end loaders in the Underground Mining Industry.
The components are available separately or as a full operational system including cameras.
